Dan worked in Television and Radio news beginning in 1980. He worked at stations in New York, Ohio, Iowa, St. Louis, and Colorado Springs. He also worked at ABC News in New York City with assignments in New York City and all over the U.S. He started law school in 1993 and continued working for ABC News in New York. He also worked at TV stations in Colorado Springs and for a United States Congressman in Colorado Springs, all while attending law school. In 1997, a mountaineering and backcountry skiing accident resulted in a long, quite ugly yet spectacular fall down the north face of Pikes Peak. This incident led to a coma, dozens of broken bones and several surgeries. The accident and subsequent life-saving measures left Dan alive, yet with disarthric speech. While his voice may have suffered, his writing has only gotten stronger. This is a major factor since writing is often the only weapon we are left with when we enter the criminal appeal process after a trial or a guilty plea.
